Contemporary Update for a Colonial Classic

PROJECT OBJECTIVE

Sitting atop a hill in Riverside, CT, this neo-Colonial home was in need of a renovation for this young family. The architecture of the home was beautiful, and fitting for the neighborhood, but the interior was dark and its layout not suited for entertaining or a modern family’s lifestyle.

OUR APPROACH

An addition was added to the back of the home allowing us to provide newly enlarged and brightened spaces. A new tiered deck offers areas for intimate gatherings or large parties, and strengthens the relationship of the home to the sloping site.

THE RESULT

After a renovation and addition this re-imagined home provides the serenity the client requested and takes on a new relationship to its beautiful site. Clean lines and understated details provide the backdrop for the large windows, providing an elegantly simple space that’s flooded in natural light.

Throughout the project, Susan and Ed were sensitive to both the structure’s original architecture and our own views of how we wanted our home and property to function.
